WCNA 35 in Philadelphia

I was gifted with a ticket on the train and also a way into the 35th World Convention of NA held in downtown Philadelphia this past weekend. What a blowout it was, some of the very best of speakers also with some of the best commonsense shared on the world wide stage. There were people from all over the world on stage sharing with we who we Blessed enough to be in a the audience. People from Russia: a hundred visiting young men and women anxious to bring back literature so they could free there friends from addiction and start NA in mother Russia. People from Africa sharing on Skype to 18,000 addicts in the audience. Wow! I'm glad I can say I too am in Recovery today, Just for Today!

Plans of Mice and Men Sooner Can Go Astray

Upon our early springlike weather I popped out and put up my easel with canvas upon a local avenue that is titled :"Belmont Ave", it is here where I did a preliminary drawing before rendering it in oils this past Sunday. I have yet to photograph the oil painting but I did have this pen and ink which I will post. It's going to be a pleasure to get out once again into the elements with my equipment and in such accommodating weather it is very pleasurable to work in the outdoor air, and sun here in Charlottesville. I am hoping to get something done this spring break or the very first week in April, but we will wait and see....one never knows in this ever changing world with all the problems we have, have had, and will be having that are not even known about now. I know that the truth is always subject to revision when it comes to making plans for my future. Ed 'Big Daddy' Roth, creator of Rat Fink: A son remembers Here is one of the early influences of my artwork. I use to love seeing his model caricatures in my neighbors window. Chris Pegg certainly didn't know it but it helped my develop an idea of "My People" in my caricatures that I've done over the years. Big Daddy Roth showed my how to have fun with my pen and paper back when I was fifteen and had a vivid imagination to share with 'the world of art'....I have much to thank this guy for,,,his nerve is one of them,,,he didn't mind it if he offended the more conservative of those with his outrageous gory big tooth rats and such...I really enjoyed it. It was an age when being offensive wasn't nearly as extreme as it is today, his work was cutting edge for the time. Afterall, the Beatles had just come to New York for there first concert if that gives you any idea of how unique he was at his height.

Walking Along W. Main St.

I found the scene along West Main is soon to change into an newer style cityscape of brick and glass with less ornamentation to its buildings. With this in mind I photographed some West Main Street buildings in the hopes of finding interesting scenes to paint. The signage is all a part of West Main and in that thought I painted this one with its graphic street crossing signage featured prominently in the picture plane. I highlighted the bricks in intense reds and developed the windows in a bizarre abstract display for each one of them. Each featuring one color being themed inside its frame as if each window display had its own abstract painting going on inside its area. Its all for the fun of it, I play with what is being viable to the view when I can. Nothing ventured nothing gained. It was nice how this one came together piece by piece with each painting session. 777: I Thought It Was A Plain Until Today

What are they thinking, those Republicans are doing us more harm than good in a very selfish way. I cann't believe the way a vote on our future financial well being was simply dismissed by a group because it might harm their reelection chances, and if they are just mouthing the voice of their voters then they need to get a grip and lead those voters to do the right thing instead of simply ignoring the needs of the country right now. Its a selfish thing to ignore your neighbors plight simply because it isn't your own. And as far as having government leading our country's banking regulations well if they didn't we'd be in a pickle. Our government is an organization that is in office because it is to look out for our common good and well being. This means to keep us from hurting ourselves as we tend to do if we just run wild. We've let down our guard by letting down our controls over our monetary practices and now we see the results of what happe...

I could offer a little hope today

It's been a struggle to beat this illness today (it's the flu) but today I got over it. All the ugly stuff that comes with being sick seems to have lifted this evening and I'm ready to get at it once again. I don't like missing out on life so I stuck with doing my job even though I was sick for the last three days, I don't usually do this but the weather was so good for biking, etc. Tonight I'm back into my old self, feeling ok once again. I don't recommend this action for most illnesses but I was so fed up with being sick in the springtime, that I had to keep going. I enjoyed being with people these past few days, and I was careful not to touch people or too many things at work. I think I hope I didn't pass it on. Today I am hearing from a student who really wants to go to college and who wants to help people in the consumer case management program that the local community college offers to some who are recommended.
